We attach in this link the Statement of the Spanish Committee of LECE, in which, in light of the new geopolitical circumstances, we believe that Europe must take a new step in its integration process. The need for a stronger Union of European States and its strategic autonomy must be accelerated, which entails the deployment of a European security and defense policy.

We must strengthen defense cooperation, develop our European energy production capacity, reinforce our strategic autonomy, ensure that no citizen is left behind in the digital and economic transformation, advance in the ecological transition, and promote a unified and solidarity-based European migration policy. All of this requires a fundamental change in the governance of the Union. United, Europeans are stronger in facing the challenges of the 21st century.

Today, more than ever, at LECE, we reaffirm our commitment to the European Union’s political project—not just as a political or economic agreement, but as a true project of peace, stability, and shared prosperity—and we call for accelerating its progress at the political and institutional levels.

We declare our opposition to the tariff increases announced by President Trump and call for a unified EU response.

Finally, we urge civil society to foster dialogue among democratic political forces to build a national agreement on Europe and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
